If you asked a cross-section of people to name things that were musically naff, the Eurovision Song Contest would likely rank pretty highly across the board. If you were to then ask what qualities one would need to succeed at said venture, a lifelong love of Blur and The Breeders would probably swoop to the opposite end of the scale.
That’s likely why Amsterdam-born singer Pip Blom’s childhood dreams of competing in the cheesy pop spectacle never really got off the ground (an adolescent attempt at penning a tune with her best friend, in her own words, “sucked”). But TV’s loss is the indie world’s gain: now 21 and with a full band in tow, Pip’s honing a sweetly scuzzy sound that’ll trounce the competition with ease.
